Friday January 30, 2009-Day 11

Not there yet.

Patience. It's a virtue I could use more of-especially when it comes to seeing results. Look, I know you can't take a body that's been out of shape for years, and turn it into a physical masterpiece in a matter of days. I realize that it takes time.

I also know that the resulting strength, health and energy are worth it! And that is where I'm trying to keep my focus. On the goal. The prize. Ultimate health and fitness.

This too, shall pass.
To that end, I did a 55 minute Wii Fit workout yesterday morning. Then two back-and-forth racquetball games with Paul last night, followed by some weight lifting to remind me which muscles got woken up on Tuesday. Ouch! I discovered that my pecs had been hibernating and my deltoids were in sleep mode. And-though I use my legs every day-I was surprised about my quads and hamstrings being weaker than I imagined, and sore from Tuesday's workout. Made it tough to do the workout last night. But I know (from past experience) that those feelings of pain and fatigue will pass.

Positive self talk and focus on the results...
Last night, I kept telling myself it's worth it. I kept envisioning the slimmer, stronger me. I kept thinking about being able to do more with my kids. About living stronger in many ways. I also focused on the Rose Run-a 5K run/walk that will honor the memory of someone I loved and respected a ton. That's going to happen this summer and I want to be able to do it with gusto!

Good eating decisions and working out despite a strong desire not to: the sometimes bumpy road to Victory!

Thursday January 29, 2009-Good Pain?

Good pain?

There is pain... the kind that deters productivity and you wish it would go away - like a headache.... and then there is pain... the kind that informs you of progress, so you know it's good. That's the kind of pain I have today. It is mild, yet powerful because it is a sign that the exercise is working. That, as the soreness goes away, it leaves muscles that are stronger for it. That... is good pain!

Snow
Several inches of snow needed to be removed from our seemingly endless driveway yesterday. That was my second source of exercise yesterday. And it felt good. I have always enjoyed shoveling snow. Brisk exercise that allows you to see the results immeditely: a clear surface to drive and walk on! I like shoveling snow!

New Wii Records
Yesterday morning's Wii Fit workout was so much fun! I set new records in almost every yoga and strength training exercise I did! And I almost made it to the end of the balance bubble maze! More progress! I truly enjoy the fact that the Wii tracks everything, and we can compete with each other - and ourselves!

Food
Yesterday I watched people all around me eating gooey brownies, soft chocolate chip cookies, pie, and cake. No problem saying no. Loving how I feel without a ton of sugar in my body!

The decisions get easier as Victory gets closer... every day!

My racquetball is improving... my energy level is increasing... praise God, I'm Feelin' Fine in 2009!

Did a 45 minute Wii Fit workout yesterday morning.
  • Pulled ahead of Tyler in the soccer head butt! Yea!
  • Pulled ahead of Kayla in the Super Hula Hoop! Yahoo!
  • Moved up to third place in the ski jump!
  • Beat my best time on the downhill skiing! Woot! Woot!
  • Worked up a good sweat and set new persnal records in 3 of the strength-training exercises!

It feels so good to start the day with activity! :-)

Better fitness, better racquetball. Paul and I played racquetall last night. I am getting to the ball quicker and tiring slower, for sure. After just one week on the Wii Fit and a few weeks of almost no sugar, it's amazing how much better I feel!

After racquetball, we went up to the weight training room and pumped some iron. Paul and I both are excited about gaining strength that we haven't had in years!

I thank God for miraculous bodies that respond so quickly once we make up our minds to get in shape! The decision is made. I'm on my way to...

Victory!

Feelin' stronger every day!

My Wii Fit workout yesterday was a good one. I know my balance is improving, I'm stronger, and it really feels good! Not to mention the fact that I passed Kayla on the Yoga Warrior pose!

I'm still controlling the amount of sugar I'm eating and I hope to get better at this as I go.

Excited about daily victories that will lead to the greater Victory!

Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii! 4.4 lbs. Lighter!

One week ago I added Wii Fit Yoga, Balance Exercises, Strength Training and Aerobics to my exercise program, and further reduced my sugar intake. The Wii Fit has informed me that I have lost 4.4 pounds! Not only that, my "Wii Fit age" is now 15 years younger than when I started! That means my balance and strength are improving!

I look forward to hitting the Wii every morning!
I look forward to seeing if I can beat Kayla's time on the tight rop!
I look forward to working toward beating Lauren's distance on the ski jump!
I look forward to growing stronger and getting close to beating Ryan's score on push ups!

I am only 3 points from beating Tyler's score in the soccer head bump!
Yahoo!

I thank God for a fun, family way to exercise!

I look forward to another week of good decisions that will take me closer to...
Victory!

Still sore... and still inspired.

Many of my lesser-used muscles have definitely experienced an awakening! The Wii Fit exercises are so much fun, yesterday I kept going for 42 minutes! I finally had to stop so I could get to work, or I may have gone on all morning!

Fun exercise! That's the kind I appreciate. How 'bout you?

I did a new Rhythm Boxing routine yesterday. My first score was lower than Kayla's, so, of course, I had to do it again. Beat her! Yea! Step Aerobics is another story, though. That girl has rhythm! Lauren is blowing away my high score in ski jump! I'm winning in the downhill skiing event, though! Tyler has the high score to beat in the soccer balance game, but it's going to take practice! Ryan has us all beat on the push up strength training session!

The competitive aspect of the Wii Sports and the Wii Fit makes it even more fun than just tracking your own progress. The "need to compete" drives me to repeat some of the exercises in an effort to pull ahead. For example, Kayla just had to go in there and beat my tight rope time. Now she's the leader and today - I must regain my lead! :-)
Victory! It is coming... one day at a time... one exercise at a time... one decision at a time... it is coming!

Sore Muscles... Inspiring!

This morning I am amazed at how many sore muscles I have from just two Wii Fit workouts! And it feels good!

Although Paul and I played racquetball for 90 minutes Monday night, only my leg muscles were a little sore. The Wii Fit Yoga, Aerobics, Strength Training, and Balance Games do an exceptional job of encourgaing proper posture and focus. This makes for a fairly intense, concentrated work out - that just flies by! And it seems very effective.

"NO!" to Sugar Another Day
Turned down birthday cake again last night. Yahoo! Avoiding sugar does get easier by the day. I'm not aiming for perfection. I am aiming for a huge reduction in the amount of sugar and processed foods I'm eating. And...

Victory comes one decision at a time!

Well... who'da thought you could work up a sweat on Wii Fit?!

I'm here to tell ya... you CAN! Last night, after the system told me something I already knew ("You're overweight!") I put in 35 minutes of Yoga, Balance and strength exercises (Made it all the way across the tight rope!), plus a couple of aerobics routines. Surprisingly effective workout! Did you know that a virtual hoola hoop could get your heart pumpin'?

I didn't get started until almost 10:30 p.m. That's when I realized I hadn't exercised for the day. Another decision: 1. Go to bed 2. Get on the Wii Fit, and at least set up my profile and take the test. Obviously, I chose #2. And, like always, once I got going I didn't want to stop! But the Wii "strongly encouraged" me to stop after the 35 minutes.

I am grateful for the Wii and the Wii Fit. Without it, I probably wouldn't have exercised last night!

VICTORY! It truly does come one decision at a time!

Diet
It's wonderful to feel the difference without daily sugar intake! I have been reducing my sugar intake for about a month. But a couple of times - like my birthday - sugar won the fight. My family got a chocolate cake, plus moose track ice cream, plus chocolate moose track ice cream. Who could resist? And, of course, I didn't want to offend my family!

Wish I had. The next day, I felt like I had been run over by a truck! And that afternoon, holding my eyes open was a feat... just... needed... to... doze....z-z-z-z-z-z! SUGAR!

Today is my dad's 83rd birthday. Sunday, there was more cake and ice cream. This time, I served the ice cream FOR OTHERS, but to the ice cream and cake, I said: "NO THANKS!" I have found that the more you say "NO" to sugar and processed foods, the easier it gets. Sunday, it wasn't that difficult. I only had to remind myself of how I felt the day after my birthday!

Exercise
Last night, Paul asked if I wanted to go to the Y to play racquetball. Honestly, I felt like doing nothing but vegetating last night. The thought of driving to the Y, getting out in the cold, then running around the court had absolutely NO APPEAL last night. But - another thing I've learned is that, when it comes to exercising on a day when you're not feeling your best, getting started is the hardest part. So I went. Once we were on the court, I didn't want to quit. We played three full games! Then, I was feeling so energized, I lifted some weights!

Victory! It comes ONE decision at a time!

Monday, January 19, 2009

It's Monday! A great day to join Donnie Denker on his 2009 journey to total health and success.

Utilizing Nutrilite's New Year to a New You challenge, Donnie will transform his health. Like Donnie, I am tired of being overweight and out of shape. So... I am committing to:

1. Drastically reduce my intake of sugar and processed foods.

2. Increase my intake of whole foods, pure water and healthy supplements, like Nutrilite protein bars, shakes, and meal replacement bars. These will be my alternative to fast food when I'm on the go.

3. Increase my frequency of exercise. Paul and I are playing racquetball 3 times per week. I am lifting light weights 3 times per week. In addition, I will walk and eventially walk/jog 30-60 minutes 3 times per week.

4. On the rare occasions when I do eat processed carbs, I will take Nutrilite Carb Blocker to minimize the damage.

Products I'll be using: https://sweeny.mychoices.biz/

If you're not in optimal health; if you do not look and feel how you want to, why not join me?
